Race Details

The Ozanam Guild Martini Mile is a 1-mile loop around beautiful, historic Union Hill & Martini Corner Entertainment District. Teams of 4 will have one runner at a time, run the entire 1-mile course. With the use of a "baton" (provided by your team), runners will make their relay-style exchanges at the start/finish transition area on 31st Street in front of the Velvet Dog. Packet Pickup

Packet Pick up will be on RACE DAY ONLY (April 30th), from 1-2:30pm, at the Velvet Dog in Martini Corner (400 East 31st Street, Kansas City, MO 64108-3105; 816-753-9990). Please do not show up the day before (or the day after) the race to pick up your packets, we will not be there and the bar tenders will probably give you a funny look (funnier than normal).

Race Rules

  1. Teams may consist of 1, 2, 3 or 4 runners.
  2. All teams pay a $100 registration fee regardless of number of team members - if you wish to sign up with 0 runners, the fee is still $100.
  3. Only teams of 4 will be eligible for awards - all teams will be eligible for the post-race party hosted by Martini Corner.
  4. Official race time will be based on the "gun start". No, not your biceps, the race director's official start.
  5. Runners must run in predetermined order. If you are having trouble determining a team order we recommend going by height, age, or shoe size.
  6. Teams may only have one runner, running on the course at a time. (Spectators along the course are encouraged!)
  7. The timing chip MUST be worn on ONLY the FINAL runner's shoe to achieve an accurate finishing time. If you DO NOT want an accurate finishing time we recommend wearing the chip as a necklace or a broach.
  8. Dogs and dog poop are not permitted on the race course.
  9. Strollers are not permitted on the race course. Those who enjoy "strolling" are permitted (and encouraged) to be on the course, as long as they are registered and finish with the alloted time.
  10. Alcohol is not permitted on the race course. If alcohol is discovered on the race course it will be confiscated by one of the race organizers and dealt with "appropriately".
  11. Segways are awesome...but are not permitted on the race course.
  12. Headphones are permitted, but volume must be a level low enough that runners are aware of his/her surroundings. Boomboxes are absolutely permitted on the race course, but must be battery powered, extension cords are not permitted on the race course.
  13. In order for teams to be eligible for Co-Ed awards, the team must consist of 1 male and 1 female.

Competitive and Recreational Team Heats

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest Men's, Women's, Co-Ed and Corporate teams; judged by the low total cumulative time for each team (but who are we kidding, you're probably not going to win so you don't really need to worry about this). But what the heck, if an entire team runs in blue jeans and tucked-in denim shirts, we will make up an award for them as well.

Competitive and Recreational Team Heats

Entertainment at the post race party will include music provided by the bands Root and Stem and The Sour Babies.

Awards

Awards will be presented at the Velvet Dog during the Post-Race Party presented by Martini Corner.

Prize Categories:

  • Fastest overall teams male, female, co-ed and corporate
  • Most creative team costume
  • Most creative baton
  • Heaviest baton

General Information

Finish Time:
This is a chip-timed event. The race course closes after 3 hours, participants must move to the sidewalk after 6pm. If your team has not completed the race after 6 hours, we will send a socially lubricated search party of bar patrons out to look for you, fully equipped with first aid and supplies.

Aid Stations:
There will be an aid station at the finish/transition area. If you cannot make it the entire 1-mile loop without aid, there will be emergency personnel on site. Otherwise just hunker down and wait for the "search party".

Schedule:
1:00pm - Packet Pickup and same day registration opens at the Velvet Dog in Martini Corner. Martini Corner bars will also be open at this time *wink-wink*.
2:30pm - Packet Pickup and same day registration closes. Martini Corner bars will still be open and happily serving patrons.
3:00pm - Competitive Men's, Women's, Corporate and Co-Ed Start. Everyone else can socialize in the Martini Corner bars.
4:00pm - Recreational Men's, Women's and Co-Ed Start. Competitive runners may cool off in any of the fun Martini Corner bars.
5:30pm - Course Officially Closes-unfinished runners may continue on sidewalks ooooor in a bar at Martini Corner.
6:00pm - Post Race Party Officially starts with drink specials, live music and award ceremony at Velvet Dog and the bars in Martini Corner.
9:00pm - Official Post Race Party concludes, however patrons are free to continue partying until the bars (in Martini Corner) kick them out.

Parking:
Several parking lots are vacant and available around Martini Corner; including SE Gilham and 31st Street and Behind Monaco. Please do not park along race course, vehicles will be towed. If you are a pace car or support vehicle for your runner-you are at the wrong event.

Photographs:
Action Sports Images and Nightlife KC will be present to capture your "posed fake smile" group photos before the event...your "ugly running face" moments during the event, and all your "all-demin victory chug" memories after the event.

Race T-Shirt:
A commemorative Ozanam Guild Martini Mile t-shirt is guaranteed to all PRE-REGISTERED participants. Race day registrants will also receive Race T-shirts, but sizes can not be guaranteed. We might even guarentee to give you the wrong size, so you will look silly and everyone will know you waited till race day to sign up...just kidding!...but seriously.
